Flamingnet's mission is to promote literacy among students.
Flamingnet was created in 2002. When Seth Cassel, one of the co-founders of Flamingnet, was in fifth grade, he read many different books. This led Seth to combine his reading with his father's (Gary Cassel) hobby, computer programming. Gradually Seth wrote reviews on the books that he read, and his father posted these reviews on the Internet at Flamingnet. After discovering the website, national publishers and authors of young adult literature began asking Seth to review their books. These publishers include Penguin Books, Scholastic, Random House, Simon & Schuster, Time Warner, and HarperCollins, as well as many other publishers and individual authors. As Seth received more books to review, Flamingnet began to accept student reviewers from all over the United States to help with the reviews.
Since beginning Flamingnet in 2002 and going off to college at Harvard('13), Seth rebranded his original edtech concept to improve the site's eBook offerings and its ability for parents and educators to use the site for book clubs and in libraries and classrooms. This rebranded concept morphed into a new website called LitPick. Please visit us at LitPick Student Book Reviews where you can find over 6,000 student book reviews and much more!
