In a town with a secret hour, time freezes for everyone during midnight. Four children are granted the ability to move in the secret hour. When a new girl comes to town, she stirs up unusual activity from the creatures that also live in the secret hour. To the other midnighters, Jessica Day is a misfit with nothing special about her. Other than her strange eyes, that is. A mysterious novel that leaves you wondering, Midnighters: The Secret Hour will make your heart skip a beat.

One of the strangest books I've ever read, Midnighters: The Secret Hour, is also one of the best written books. The suspense was so well- placed that it was spooky, but not so scary that it was stupid. I thought that when I put the book down, (which is hard to do), I had so many questions and predictions running through my head that when I picked it back up, I forgot what had happened. As a final note, the ending was great, and it also made me really want to know more. I can't wait for the next book.

SECOND REVIEW

Flamingnet Student Book Reviewer  SC

Only four people know of a peculiar thing that occurs in the small town of Bixby, Oklahoma, time stops at midnight for one hour, and they are the only humans they know of that exist during it. This all changes when "Midnighters", who gain special powers during the hour, realize that she too can exist during the time. However, there are dark creatures that have been named darklings and slithers by the Midnighters. These creatures have left the small group alone thus far, but they take a special interest in Jessica and seem to want to kill her. This most likely means that she has a hidden power that could be devastating to them. The Midnighters must find their new group member's power before the dark creatures destroy her.

I found "Midnighters" to be an enjoyable fantasy book. I thought that the fact that the characters seemed like relatively normal teenagers did not let the book become a wild fantasy, which some readers might prefer. The book was reasonably long, but was not cumbersome or difficult to get through. I was pleased to find that this is the first book in the Midnighters trilogy and look forward to reading the others.
